Under a new food safety plan approved by the city, authorities will prioritise unannounced inspections of businesses producing, processing, selling and importing food for the festival, particularly mooncakes.
Seasonal businesses and those considered at high risk will also face increased scrutiny as demand for festival food rises.
Inspections will focus on food quality and hygiene, the origin of ingredients, use of additives and flavourings, product labelling, packaging and storage conditions.
Mooncake retailers will be checked for food safety conditions, product origins and compliance with regulations covering imported food.
Checks will also cover other popular festival products, including confectionery, beverages, food ingredients and additives.
Violations will be strictly dealt with, while unsafe food will be traced to its source and handled in accordance with regulations.
The Hanoi Market Surveillance Sub-department will conduct inspections of food circulating on the market, with particular attention to counterfeit and smuggled goods, product origins, quality and labelling.
Serious violations may be referred to relevant authorities for criminal investigation.
