According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at around 6.45 pm on August 7, when the man was walking along the beach with a 21-year-old Vietnamese woman from Phu Hoa 2 Commune, Daklak Province.

The man reportedly walked towards the water's edge to wash his hands when a large wave suddenly swept him out to sea. He disappeared from view and could not be located.

After receiving the emergency call, Tuy Hoa Ward Police, together with the Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue Police Division of Daklak Provincial Police, deployed personnel and equipment to search for him.

The rescue operation was hampered by large waves and strong winds at the time of the incident. Search teams worked for several hours but had still found no trace of the tourist by 6.30 am on August 8.
