A section of Provincial Road 161 in Bao Ha Commune, Lao Cai Province, has been cut off after a major landslide triggered by heavy rain overnight on August 6.
Around 30 metres of the road collapsed completely into the embankment along the Red River, leaving the route impassable to all traffic.
Authorities warned that the landslide could continue to expand if heavy rainfall persists, posing a direct threat to motorists and local residents.
Following the incident, emergency personnel established roadblocks at both ends of the affected section, erected warning barriers and prohibited people and vehicles from entering the area.
Drivers have been directed to alternative routes while authorities work to ensure public safety.
Relevant agencies are continuing to monitor weather conditions, assess the extent of the damage and prepare plans to restore the road.
Lao Cai Provincial Police urged residents not to travel through the landslide area and to follow all instructions issued by emergency and traffic management authorities to avoid further danger.
