HCM City Police Department confirmed on Thursday morning that the two victims who had been seriously injured in the fire had died in hospital.

The fire broke out at a two-storey house on Nguyen Van Dau Street in Binh Loi Trung Ward at about 4.20 am the same day. Residents nearby raised the alarm and tried to put out the fire, but were unsuccessful.
After receiving the report, Ho Chi Minh City Police deployed officers and specialised vehicles to the scene to tackle the blaze and assist residents. The fire was brought under control and extinguished shortly afterwards.
At the time of the fire, there were three people inside the house including a 40-year-old man, his 38-year-old wife and their 12-year-old son. The wife managed to escape through the front door.
Meanwhile, the man and his son were seriously injured. They were taken to Gia Dinh People's Hospital for emergency treatment, but later died.
According to local residents, the ground floor of the house had been rented out as a coffee shop. At the time of the fire, the shop was closed. Police are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the damage.
The house had a total usable area of about 122 square metres. The fire damaged about 20 of the 122 square metres.
