Vietnam's total merchandise trade reached nearly USD 660 billion during the first seven months of 2026, driven by strong growth in both exports and imports. However, imports expanded at a faster pace, resulting in a trade deficit of more than USD 20.5 billion.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the country's total import and export turnover reached USD 109.75 billion in July, up 5.3 per cent from the previous month and 33 per cent higher than a year earlier.
Exports totalled USD 53.08 billion in July, an increase of 4.5 per cent month on month, while imports rose 6.1 per cent to USD 56.67 billion.
For the January-July period, Vietnam's total merchandise trade amounted to USD 659.58 billion, up 28.1 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Exports reached USD 319.53 billion, representing year-on-year growth of 21.7 per cent, while imports climbed 34.8 per cent to USD 340.05 billion.
Vietnam recorded a merchandise trade deficit of USD 3.59 billion in July. Cumulatively, the trade deficit for the first seven months of the year widened to USD 20.52 billion.
