Heavy rain that began on the evening of August 2 caused widespread localised flooding across Lao Cai Ward by the morning of August 3, with floodwaters exceeding one metre in depth on some roads.

A representative of the Lao Cai Ward People's Committee said persistent rainfall had inundated multiple streets across the ward.
"The heavy rain caused localised flooding on many roads, with some sections submerged by more than one metre. As of 9 am, rain was still falling, although floodwaters had begun to recede. There have been no casualties, but damage to property is still being assessed," the official said.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, scattered showers and thunderstorms affected northern Vietnam, Thanh Hoa Province and Nghe An Province on August 2, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall.
The forecasting agency said the weather on August 3 would remain unsettled across the northwest region, with scattered showers and thunderstorms and isolated areas of heavy to very heavy rain.
Authorities also warned that thunderstorms could bring tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusty winds.
