Hanoi plans to develop a new food street in Cau Giay Ward featuring mobile food vendors as part of a broader cultural and pedestrian zone in the west of the capital.
Under a pilot project approved on July 31, the city will create a cultural space and weekend pedestrian streets along Thanh Thai and Khuc Thua Du streets, operating on weekend evenings, public holidays and peak travel periods.
The project will be implemented in two phases. The first will focus on the core area around Cau Giay Park and the section of Thanh Thai Street bordering the park. The second phase will extend the cultural space to Khuc Thua Du and Truong Cong Giai streets, linking nearby commercial and technology areas.
A key feature of the project is the proposed Cau Giay Food Street, which will initially use mobile food carts and temporary food stalls instead of permanent kiosks.
Around 15 standardised food carts or mobile stalls could be installed along Khuc Thua Du Street. Vendors will be required to display prices, provide ingredient traceability via QR codes, accept cashless payments and properly manage waste.
The menu is expected to feature at least 50 per cent Hanoi and Cau Giay specialities, alongside selected Asian and Western dishes and vegetarian options.
The city also plans themed evenings, including traditional Hanoi cuisine on Fridays, international street food on Saturdays and vegetarian and environmentally friendly food on Sundays.
Thepedestrian zone would be managed under a three-tier traffic system, separating pedestrian areas, local access for residents and businesses, and outer traffic diversion routes. Electronic traffic signs will also be installed at key intersections.
The project also calls for partnerships with universities and arts groups to organise regular street performances and cultural events.
