18 rest stops on North-South Expressway to be completed this year

Vietnam aims to complete 18 rest stops along the eastern North-South Expressway by the end of 2026, according to the Ministry of Construction.

In a report submitted to Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, the ministry said the expressway is planned to have 36 rest stops, of which seven are already operational and 29 are being newly developed.

Of the 24 rest stops overseen by the ministry, investment contracts have been signed for 21, while procedures are underway for the remaining three.

Two newly built rest stops, on the Mai Son-National Highway 45 and Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet sections, have already opened. Another 11 have begun operating essential public services, while three are using temporary facilities pending completion.

Four rest stops are due to complete essential public facilities by August 15. All 18 are expected to be finished this year, except the Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet (Km144) site, which is awaiting full land clearance.

The ministry said it would continue working with local authorities to resolve land clearance issues and warned that investors missing contractual deadlines could face penalties or contract termination.
