According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, civil servants and public employees are entitled to the two statutory National Day holidays: September 2 and the preceding day, September 1.

To create the extended break, the government will swap the working day on Monday, August 31, with Saturday, August 22, allowing public sector employees to take five consecutive days off.

For employees in the private sector, the National Day holiday will include Wednesday, September 2, plus one additional day chosen by employers: either Tuesday, September 1, or Thursday, September 3, in line with labour regulations.

Government agencies and public institutions have been instructed to arrange duty rosters to ensure uninterrupted public services throughout the holiday period. They are also required to assign staff to respond to urgent or unexpected situations that may arise during the holiday.

Businesses must notify employees of their 2026 National Day holiday schedule at least 30 days before it takes effect.

With the formal recognition of Vietnam Culture Day on November 24 as a public holiday, civil servants, public employees and workers will receive one additional day off, bringing the total number of public holidays in 2026 to 12 days.
