The projects are expected to eliminate three of the city's 50 major flood hotspots, defined as areas submerged by at least 30 centimetres of water for more than 30 minutes.

The projects include drainage, flood-control and anti-erosion works across Ho Chi Minh City, Thu Duc and the former Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau areas.
The plan also calls for an integrated regional drainage system following the merger of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
The city also plans to use GIS, AI and real-time data to improve flood management, while stepping up enforcement against illegal encroachment on canals and waterways.
Following the merger, Ho Chi Minh City has 159 flood-prone locations, including 76 in the former Ho Chi Minh City area, 52 in former Binh Duong and 31 in former Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
According to the city's Department of Construction, heavy rain has flooded 26 roads this year, while eight others are regularly affected by high tides.
