Hanoi earmarks USD 273 billion to honour war veterans

Hanoi has earmarked more than VND 273 billion (USD 10.4 million) for gifts and commemorative activities marking War Invalids and Martyrs' Day on July 27.

The city plans to distribute 114,562 gifts to war veterans, wounded soldiers, families of fallen service members and other beneficiaries recognised for their contributions during Vietnam's wars.

Under the programme, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers will each receive VND 10 million (USD 382), while wounded soldiers, sick veterans and several other eligible groups will receive VND 3 million each. Representatives responsible for ancestor worship of fallen soldiers will receive VND 1.5 million.

Hanoi also aims to raise more than VND 29.4 billion for its Gratitude Fund and provide 918 savings books, each worth at least VND 3 million, to eligible beneficiaries.

Alongside financial support, the city is organising health check-ups, home visits, cemetery restoration, candle-lighting ceremonies and cultural events to mark the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day.

The commemorations will peak on July 26-27, with memorial ceremonies and visits to war cemeteries across the capital.
