HCM City to deploy tourism wardens in Vung Tau and Con Dao

HCM City has approved the deployment of tourism wardens to former Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and Con Dao Special Zone to improve visitor safety and maintain order at key tourist destinations.

Under the plan, the city's Youth Volunteer Force will work with the Department of Tourism to deploy wardens at key tourist sites in Vung Tau and Con Dao, with local authorities proposing nearly 100 personnel.

The wardens will patrol tourist areas, assist visitors and coordinate with police and local authorities to maintain public order and support emergency response.

The Department of Tourism will identify priority deployment sites with the Youth Volunteer Force, police and local authorities, while the Finance Department will oversee funding and local authorities will provide operational support.

The expansion follows what city officials describe as the success of the tourism warden scheme in central Ho Chi Minh City.

The programme currently deploys 248 wardens across 30 locations and 46 patrol routes covering major tourist attractions, including Notre-Dame Cathedral, Ben Thanh Market and Nguyen Hue Walking Street.

The wardens have helped improve public security, support visitors and reduce touting, overcharging and other activities that damage the city's tourism image.

Expanding the scheme is expected to strengthen efforts to prevent scams, theft and other offences targeting tourists, while improving emergency response at beaches and assisting local authorities in maintaining public order and environmental cleanliness.
