Authorities in Lai Chau Province have ordered the emergency construction of a resettlement area worth approximately VND 19 billion (USD 726,000) to provide safe, long-term housing for 24 families who lost their homes in flash floods in Muong Than Commune.
The provincial People's Committee said the project is intended to urgently address the aftermath of severe flash floods and debris flows, while helping affected residents rebuild their lives in a safer location.

In addition to new housing, the development will include essential infrastructure aimed at improving living conditions and supporting social welfare, as well as strengthening local security and disaster resilience.
According to the decision, the resettlement site will accommodate around 24 households whose homes were destroyed by the disaster. The project will cover approximately 10,000 square metres of prepared land.
Authorities plan to construct new homes together with internal roads, water supply and drainage systems, electricity networks, land levelling works and other supporting infrastructure required for the community.
The estimated investment of VND 19 billion (USD 726,000) will be financed through the state budget and other lawful funding sources.
The Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee said that prolonged heavy rainfall between July 15 and July 17 triggered severe flash floods and landslides in Muong Than Commune, damaging homes and public infrastructure while posing a direct threat to residents' lives and property.
On July 17, the chairman of the provincial People's Committee declared a state of emergency in the commune because of the disaster. Provincial authorities said relocating residents from high-risk areas and providing permanent, safer housing had become an urgent priority.
