Revised expressway plan targets 10,105 km by 2050

Vietnam has revised its national road network plan, expanding the expressway system to 46 routes with a total length of about 10,105 km by 2050, the Ministry of Construction said.

Under the revised plan, the country's expressway network will comprise 46 routes stretching about 10,105 kilometres, up from the previous blueprint following the addition of five new expressways.

The North-South Expressway East will run about 2,160 kilometres from the Huu Nghi border gate in Lang Son Province to Ca Mau Province, while the western North-South route will extend about 1,250 kilometres from Tuyen Quang Province to An Giang Province.

The plan also includes 15 expressways in northern Vietnam, 14 in the central and Central Highlands regions and 10 in the south, along with three ring roads around Hanoi and two around HCM City.

Five new expressways have been added to the plan, including the Northern Mountain Ring Road, the Northern Midlands Ring Road, the Ha Tinh-Cau Treo, Hue-A Luoi and Phan Thiet-Bao Loc-Gia Nghia-Bu Prang expressways.

Most of the new routes are scheduled for construction after 2030, although parts of the Northern Midlands Ring Road, the Ha Tinh-Cau Treo Expressway and the Phan Thiet-Bao Loc-Gia Nghia corridor are planned to be built before and after 2030.
