Ho Chi Minh City steps up free health check-ups

HCM City has provided free health check-ups to 467,800 residents in the first two months of a citywide screening programme and is expected to surpass 500,000 this week.

More than 120,000 people were screened between July 6 and 12, the highest weekly total since the programme was launched.

The initiative also creates electronic health records for participants as part of efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare and improve the management of non-communicable diseases.

Con Dao recorded the highest participation rate, with 35.7 per cent of its population screened, followed by An Nhon Tay Commune (28.2 per cent), Thanh An Commune (18.7 per cent), Bac Tan Uyen Commune (16.2 per cent) and Vinh Loc Commune (15.0 per cent).

However, progress remained uneven, with 10 wards and communes reporting screening rates of less than 1per cent of their populations.

The health department said local authorities would continue expanding the programme with the goal of offering free health check-ups to all residents by the end of 2026.
