Authorities in Khanh Hoa Province have urged residents not to approach, chase or capture an endangered langur after it was spotted inside a seaside resort in Cam Lam Commune.

On the afternoon of July 12, Cam Lam Commune Police issued a public advisory after confirming the presence of a wild langur in the area.

The animal was first seen by staff at Aquamarine Cam Ranh Resort, where a black langur with a white face was observed moving through coconut trees. Resort employees immediately alerted local authorities.

According to preliminary information, the langur is believed to have come from the nearby Cu Hin mountain area before wandering into the resort.

To ensure public safety and protect the animal, police urged residents and visitors not to approach, chase, throw objects at or engage in any behaviour that could frighten the langur.

Authorities also stressed that people must not hunt, keep, trade, transport or possess the animal under any circumstances.

The langur is a rare and endangered wild species protected under Vietnamese law, and any violations will be dealt with strictly.

Residents who encounter the langur or other wild animals in residential areas are advised to maintain a safe distance and immediately notify Cam Lam Commune Police or local forestry authorities so the animals can be safely returned to their natural habitat.

In recent months, Khanh Hoa Province has recorded a series of incidents involving wild animals wandering into residential areas before being voluntarily handed over by local residents.

In early July 2026, the Nha Trang-Dien Khanh Forest Protection Department received several wild animals found by members of the public, including two monkeys classified under Group IIB, a nearly 4kg otter listed under the strictly protected Group IB category, and a 2m-long python weighing about 7kg.

After health checks and the completion of legal procedures, the animals were released into the natural forest within the Hon Ba Nature Reserve.

Earlier, police and forestry officers in Phuoc Ha Commune also received a barking deer (Muntiacus vaginalis), a protected Group IIB species. Following rehabilitation and health monitoring, it was returned to the wild.

In a separate case, a resident in Cam Ranh Ward discovered a water monitor lizard on Le Duan Street and promptly contacted police to hand the animal over to wildlife authorities. The species is also protected under Vietnam's Group IIB classification.

Authorities said the growing willingness of local residents to report and surrender wild animals is making an important contribution to biodiversity conservation.
