Hue-Phong Nha tourist train set for September 1 launch

A new tourist train linking Hue and Phong Nha is expected to begin operations on September 1, offering a rail tourism experience connecting heritage and scenic destinations across central Vietnam.

Authorities in Quang Tri Province are working with Vietnam Railways to finalise the project, which aims to strengthen regional tourism links and make better use of the country's existing rail network.

The train will travel about 190 km between Hue and Phong Nha in around 4½ hours, stopping at Dong Ha, My Trach, Dong Hoi and Tho Loc stations. Fares are expected to start from VND 360,000 (about USD 14) per person.

The seven-car train will feature regional cultural displays, OCOP products, local cuisine and traditional performances, while giving travellers access to destinations including the Hue Imperial Citadel, the Quang Tri Citadel, the Vinh Moc Tunnels and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.

The service is designed around the concept of "one journey, multiple experiences", integrating rail travel with accommodation, tours and other tourism services.

Local authorities said they were also working to improve transport links between railway stations and tourist attractions, develop local tourism products and expand digital ticketing and marketing ahead of the planned launch.
