The Phu Quoc Special Zone administration in An Giang Province said the accident occurred at about 1 pm when the vessel, operated by Ocean Pear Island, was returning from May Rut Island to An Thoi Port.

The accident occurred at about 1 pm when the Ocean Pearl Island speedboat, registration AG-26751, was travelling from May Rut Ngoai Island to An Thoi International Port. The vessel was carrying 32 Indian tourists, three crew members and one Vietnamese tour guide.
Rescue teams, including border guards, the navy and coast guard, were deployed after the accident. Two border guard vessels and 35 personnel joined the search and rescue operation.
According to the An Thoi Port Border Guard Station, 21 people were taken to medical centres in Phu Quoc following the accident, while 15 bodies had been recovered.
The rescue operation was continuing.
