Under the impact of a low-pressure trough combined with upper-level wind convergence, many parts of Son La Province saw moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy downpours overnight on July 10 and into the morning of July 11. Rainfall totals generally ranged from 50mm to more than 200mm. Muong La Commune recorded the highest level at 236mm.
Prolonged heavy rain caused flooding and landslides in several areas, disrupting residents' lives and transport. In Muong La Commune, some roads were deeply flooded, making travel difficult.
At the gateway area of the former Muong La District, a large volume of soil and rock slid from a hillside and covered the road, blocking traffic.
In response, local authorities mobilised on-site forces to clear drains and drainage systems and remove mud and debris. Teams also helped residents move belongings and clean homes, gradually restoring normal life after the flooding.

Forecasts for the next 12-24 hours show Son La Province will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, with some places likely to see very heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 15mm to 40mm, with some areas receiving more than 100mm.
The meteorological agency warned that intense rainfall over a short period could heighten the risk of flooding, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
