Police in Dong Thanh commune, Ho Chi Minh City, rescued 49 cats and detained several suspects after dismantling an alleged ring involved in stealing and trafficking pets, authorities said on July 9.

During the investigation, officers summoned and arrested a number of people believed to be linked to the operation. They rescued 49 live cats and seized the remains of six cats that had already been slaughtered.
Investigators said the suspects admitted using traps to steal cats from households in Dong Thanh, Hoc Mon and An Hoi communes, as well as Lai Thieu, Thoi An and Tan Thoi Hiep wards, among other areas.

Police have urged anyone whose cat has gone missing since July 1, 2026, to contact Dong Thanh Commune Police at 15 Dang Thuc Vinh Street to assist with the investigation and complete procedures to reclaim their pet.
