Bac Ninh posts sixth-fastest growth in Vietnam in first half

Bac Ninh's economy expanded 10.56 per cent in the first six months of 2026, ranking sixth nationwide, although growth fell short of the province's target.

Bac Ninh recorded estimated economic growth of 10.56 per cent in the first half of 2026, making it the sixth-fastest growing locality in Vietnam and one of nine provinces and cities to achieve double-digit growth.

According to a report released by the Bac Ninh People's Committee on July 9, 2026, the growth rate remained below the province's target of 10.96 per cent for the period.

Public investment disbursement reached more than VND 6.3 billion by June 30, 2026, equivalent to more than 32 per cent of the provincial plan and over 38 per cent of the target assigned by the prime minister.

Despite the strong economic performance, the provincial government said several structural challenges remained.

It said the competitiveness of domestic businesses had yet to improve significantly, while their participation in global value chains remained limited. Links between local firms and foreign-invested enterprises were also described as weak, reducing the spillover benefits of technology transfer, management expertise and supporting industry development.

Construction investment has also progressed more slowly than expected. Several key public-private partnership projects were approved only during the first six months of the year and remain in the site clearance phase, resulting in a relatively low value of completed construction work.

For the second half of 2026, Bac Ninh plans to accelerate major construction projects in an effort to meet its investment and implementation targets.
