By 8 am, major roads including Hoang Ngoc Phach Street, Ngo Kim Tai Street, Nguyen Tat To Street in Le Chan Ward, as well as Van Cao Street, Nguyen Binh Street and Le Loi Street in Gia Vien Ward, were heavily flooded.

Floodwater reached the height of motorcycle wheels in many locations, making travel difficult for motorists and slowing traffic across the city.

According to Haiphong Drainage One Member Co Ltd, rainfall began at around 5 am, with the heaviest downpours occurring between 5.15 am and 7.30 am.

The company recorded 130 mm of rainfall during the period, while the river level reached 2.4 metres. The widespread downpour caused localised flooding on several roads across the city.

The drainage company said it activated pumping stations as soon as the rain began to accelerate the removal of stormwater.

It also deployed engineers and maintenance workers to flood-prone locations to monitor conditions and respond promptly to any incidents caused by the severe weather.
