The Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station said officers, working with local police, intercepted the shipment after spotting a suspicious VinFast vehicle during a patrol near border marker 1321 on Tuesday.
The driver allegedly ignored orders to stop and attempted to flee towards Hoanh Mo Border Gate before being apprehended after a chase.
Officers found 100 black metal cylinders with gas valves packed inside 25 sacks. The driver failed to produce documents proving the legal origin of the cargo.
The suspect told investigators he had been hired by an unidentified man to transport the shipment from Phai Lau Hamlet to Luc Hon Commune for VND 1.5 million (around USD 57).
The border guard station has seized the vehicle and the suspected nitrous oxide cylinders pending further investigation and forensic examination.
