Workers uncover 500 kg bomb during road construction in Lao Cai

Construction workers have uncovered a 500 kg bomb buried underground during a road project in Lao Cai Province, prompting authorities to seal off the area while specialists assess the device.

The bomb was discovered at about 9 am on July 8 during construction of the Bao Ha-Hong Bun frontage road in Bao Ha Commune.

Work was halted immediately after the discovery, and the contractor alerted local authorities.

Officials arrived at the site to establish a safety perimeter, install warning signs and coordinate with specialist teams to inspect and safely dispose of the unexploded bomb.

The area remains under strict security while the device is being handled.

Authorities have urged residents to stay away from the site and follow official safety instructions until the operation is completed.
