The city's police said the operation was part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal gambling during the 2026 World Cup, following directives from the Ministry of Public Security.

In the early hours of June 28, criminal police, working with other units, simultaneously raided eight locations across the city and summoned 26 suspects for questioning. Officers seized 45 mobile phones, an iPad, computers and documents linked to football betting and illegal lottery operations.
Preliminary investigations found the ring had processed more than VND 1 trillion in gambling transactions before it was dismantled.
Police have placed 13 suspects in temporary detention on allegations of organising and participating in illegal gambling. The investigation is continuing.
