State funding for expressway projects estimated at VND 334.6 trln

The Vietnamese Ministry of Construction has estimated that VND 334.6 trillion (about USD 12.7 billion) in state funding will be needed between 2026 and 2030 to develop 12 expressway projects.

In a report to the prime minister, the ministry said the projects would form part of the 2026-2030 public investment plan to expand Vietnam's expressway network in line with the national transport strategy through 2050.

Priority projects include western sections of the North-South Expressway, an expressway linking Ho Chi Minh City with the Mekong Delta, expanding the Hanoi-Bac Giang Expressway and widening the eastern North-South Expressway.

The ministry also proposed several east-west expressways linking mountainous areas with seaports and border crossings with Laos and Cambodia to improve regional connectivity and cross-border trade.

The 12 projects are estimated to cost VND 514.9 trillion in total, of which VND 334.6 trillion would come from the state budget during the 2026-2030 period.

The ministry urged the government to allocate funding under the next medium-term public investment plan so construction could begin as soon as possible to support economic growth.
