Long Thanh airport targets commercial launch by year-end

Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai City remains on track for commercial operations in December 2026 despite labour shortages and design bottlenecks.

ACV said the project has reached 77 per cent of the value of signed contracts, while the main construction package covering key airport facilities is nearly 70 per cent complete.

The construction site currently employs more than 7,300 workers, but ACV said about 1,668 additional personnel are needed, mainly for the passenger terminal and power infrastructure packages. More than 20,000 outstanding design drawings are also slowing construction and payment procedures.

The corporation aims to increase the workforce to nearly 9,000 direct workers while speeding up design work to meet the completion schedule.

Among the project's key components, the passenger terminal is expected to be ready for technical operation in September, while the runway, taxiways and aircraft apron are scheduled for completion between July and September.

ACV completed the project's main power connection earlier this month, providing the infrastructure needed for system testing ahead of trial operations.

Integrated trial operations are scheduled for September to test coordination between the runway, terminal and airport systems before the airport enters commercial service in December.

The state-owned airport operator said it was also working with relevant authorities to resolve issues related to contract adjustments, exchange rates and rising construction material costs.

The airport is expected to become Vietnam's largest aviation hub, easing congestion at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and supporting long-term growth in air travel.
