Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of National Defence Nguyen Tan Cuong described the mission as an important humanitarian commitment that reflects Vietnam's foreign policy and strengthens the country's role in international disaster response.

He said the deployment would also reinforce the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Venezuela while enhancing Vietnam's standing in global humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

Nguyen Tan Cuong noted that this is the third time the Vietnam People's Army has dispatched personnel and equipment overseas to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

Many members of the contingent previously took part in Vietnam's earthquake relief missions in Turkey in 2023 and Myanmar in 2025.

The deputy minister urged the team to carry out the mission with determination, discipline and unity, overcome operational challenges and successfully fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to them by the Party, the State and the armed forces.

Major General Pham Hai Chau, deputy director of the Department of Search and Rescue, said the contingent has been divided into four units, comprising a command and coordination team, an engineering team, a military medical team and a search and rescue dog unit.

The mission will transport approximately 88 tonnes of equipment and humanitarian supplies, including both operational gear and aid for Venezuela. The cargo includes 50 tonnes of emergency rations, 1,600 tents and 15 power generators, packed into 628 consignments.

The deployment is expected to remain in Venezuela for around 20 days to support post earthquake recovery operations.
