Three underground rail stations approved for Long Thanh airport

The Ministry of Construction has approved in principle a plan to build three underground railway stations at Long Thanh International Airport.

In a June 25 document to Dong Nai City, the ministry said extending Metro Line 1 to the city's new administrative centre and Long Thanh airport aligns with the national transport strategy.

The ministry backed Dong Nai's proposal for separate stations on each rail line but said the planned Thu Thiem-Long Thanh metro line should include two stations at terminals T1 and T2, in line with the airport's master plan.

The ministry urged Dong Nai to coordinate with HCM City, ACV and the Thang Long Project Management Board to finalise technical standards, station connections and construction plans before updating the provincial master plan.

Under the proposal, the North-South high-speed railway station would serve as the central hub, flanked by separate stations for the extended Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line and the future Thu Thiem-Long Thanh metro line.

Authorities said the layout would minimise technical conflicts, enable independent development of each rail project and create an integrated hub linking high-speed rail, metro services and air travel. Passengers would access the stations from Terminal T1 via pedestrian bridges, underground walkways or both.
