According to local authorities, persistent heavy rainfall caused the Bang River to rise by around 95 cm per hour between 7 am and 8 am on June 26.
At 8 am, the Bang Giang hydrological station recorded a water level of 179.91 metres, with the river continuing to rise rapidly.
Authorities have urged residents in Hoa An Commune to move property, livestock and vehicles to higher ground and closely monitor weather forecasts and river levels.
Tien Thanh Hydropower Plant in Hanh Phuc Commune issued an emergency notice announcing controlled water releases after heavy rainfall across the river basin caused inflows into its reservoir to increase sharply. The operator said downstream water levels could rise by around 0.5 metres, potentially affecting parts of Hanh Phuc, Thach An, Phuc Hoa and Hoa Thuan communes.
Meanwhile, Binh Long Hydropower Plant also issued an emergency notice on reservoir regulation as heavy rain continued across its catchment area.
Both hydropower operators said discharge volumes could be increased if heavy rainfall persists, adding that further announcements would be issued if conditions change.
Authorities have advised residents to follow weather forecasts and disaster warnings closely and to avoid fishing, collecting driftwood or entering river channels and floodplains during the flood period and reservoir releases to ensure their safety.
