On June 25, Tay Ninh Provincial Police announced the prosecution of Le Van Cuong, a resident of Can Giuoc Commune, on charges of causing environmental pollution.

Authorities said Cuong was caught in the act of using a truck to illegally dispose of nearly 600 tonnes of fibre cement waste on a plot of land in Can Giuoc Commune.
The material consisted of discarded fibre cement panels collected from construction materials manufacturers.
According to the preliminary investigation, Cuong did not possess an environmental permit and was not licensed to receive or process ordinary industrial solid waste.
Despite this, investigators said he entered into contracts to collect damaged and rejected fibre cement sheets from several building materials companies.
Rather than transferring the waste to authorised treatment facilities as required by law, Cuong allegedly resold some of the material to buyers and disposed of the remainder directly into the environment.
Police are continuing their investigation into the case and assessing the environmental impact of the illegal dumping.
