Hanoi to install online cameras at slaughterhouses

Hanoi plans to install and connect online surveillance cameras at centralised slaughterhouses as part of efforts to strengthen food safety, traceability and disease control.

The move was announced following a review of the city's programme on managing animal slaughtering, transportation and the trade of animals and animal products.

Under the plan, the department will study the installation of an online camera system to monitor slaughtering activities and strengthen traceability, food safety and disease control.

The department has been tasked with developing a database and management software for centralised and temporary slaughterhouses as Hanoi seeks to digitise and improve oversight of the sector.

Several localities were praised for expanding centralised slaughtering facilities and improving controls over the origin of animal products in key consumption areas.

Local authorities were instructed to strengthen inspections of animal slaughtering, transport and trade, with a focus on traceability and food safety.

The city ordered a crackdown on the sale of animal products of unknown origin, products lacking slaughter inspection certification and those failing to meet food safety standards.

The city aims to ensure that all animals brought to slaughterhouses have clear origins and undergo mandatory quarantine checks in accordance with regulations.

The department has also been tasked with reviewing Hanoi's slaughterhouse network and proposing a development plan for the 2026-2030 period.

Officials said the measures formed part of broader efforts to reorganise slaughtering activities, phase out small-scale facilities and expand centralised slaughterhouses across the capital.
