Danang airport tests UAV detection system after drone incursions

Danang International Airport is testing a surveillance system designed to detect and track unauthorised drones following a series of incursions that disrupted flight operations earlier this year.

A representative of Danang International Airport said on June 22 that the airport had begun testing a monitoring system for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including drones and flycams.

The system is capable of detecting, identifying and tracking unauthorised UAVs operating within the airport area.

The trial aims to assess the system's accuracy, detection range and ability to monitor potential safety threats posed by unmanned aircraft.

The test results will provide a basis for improving aviation security measures and ensuring safe and uninterrupted flight operations.

The trial comes after a series of drone incursions at Danang International Airport in recent months. Earlier this year, several UAVs were spotted in restricted airspace, forcing some flights to adjust their operations for safety reasons.

The airport reported six drone-related incidents between February 17 and 24, affecting 83 flights.

Following the incidents, authorities investigated and took action against those responsible.

On February 26, Danang authorities issued a directive requiring relevant agencies to tighten control over UAV, drone and flycam operations within the airport's restricted airspace.

Danang police and the city's Military Command have also conducted patrols and detected at least 10 cases of illegal drone operations.
