The programme was organised by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Lao Dong Newspaper and the HCM City Labour Federation.
Speaking at the event, Ngo Duy Hieu, vice president of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, said the initiative reflected the trade union's commitment to supporting workers' health and wellbeing.
He said the organisation had supported workers through free health checks, medicine and assistance for those affected by serious illnesses and workplace-related health issues.
Prior to the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, the confederation allocated VND 100 billion to assist more than 29,000 union members and workers affected by serious illnesses and occupational diseases, he added.
The event also featured free legal consultations from nearly 30 lawyers on issues including labour rights, insurance, family matters, land disputes and online privacy.
Lawyer Ngo Viet Bac said some employers abused probationary arrangements by repeatedly extending trial periods or reassigning workers to avoid signing formal contracts and providing full benefits.
He also warned that some companies encouraged workers to resign voluntarily during periods of business difficulty, potentially causing them to lose compensation and other legal entitlements.
In addition to legal consultations, participants received general health checks and free medication.
Nguyen Thanh Cuc, a worker at My Phuoc Industrial Park, said the programme helped address legal and workplace concerns, while a health screening revealed a stomach ulcer that she had been unaware of.
Nguyen Duc Thanh, deputy editor-in-chief of Lao Dong Newspaper, said organisers hoped to expand cooperation among trade unions, local authorities, healthcare providers, lawyers and businesses to strengthen support services for workers.
