Fishing boat rescued after striking reef in Danang Bay

A fishing boat carrying 10 crew members was rescued after striking a submerged reef and taking on water in Danang Bay early on Thursday.

The 19.2-metre vessel was returning from fishing grounds when it hit rocks near Da Den Beach, puncturing its hull and causing water to flood several compartments.

The captain attempted to bring the vessel ashore, but it ran aground near the Man Quang Border Guard Control Station and continued taking on water, with floodwater reaching about one metre inside the boat.

A rescue vessel carrying nine border guards was dispatched after authorities received an emergency call at 2.35 am.

Rescuers reached the vessel shortly after 3 am and used pumps to remove water and prevent it from sinking.

After more than two hours of operations, the water was largely drained from the compartments and the vessel was stabilised. Local fishing boats later helped tow it to a safe location.

The rescue operation ensured the safety of all 10 crew members and helped minimise damage to the vessel.
