The ministry has approved a proposal by the Vietnam Road Administration to introduce toll collection on 13 state-funded sections of the eastern North-South Expressway developed during the 2021-2025 period.
The toll rates will range from VND 900 to VND 1,300 per kilometre, depending on the route, and will be calculated based on the actual distance travelled. All tolls will be collected through the electronic toll collection (ETC) system.
The affected sections include Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan, Bai Vot-Ham Nghi, Ham Nghi-Vung Ang, Vung Ang-Bung, Bung-Van Ninh, Van Ninh-Cam Lo, Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh, Chi Thanh-Van Phong, Van Phong-Nha Trang, Can Tho-Hau Giang and Hau Giang-Ca Mau.
Under the approved rates, a standard passenger vehicle using the 30.5-km Bai Vot-Ham Nghi section would pay up to VND 13,774, while the toll for the largest vehicle category would reach VND 55,094.
The highest toll among the 13 routes applies to the 83.4-km Van Phong-Nha Trang section, where fees for passenger cars could reach VND 32,625 and VND130,500 for heavy trucks and large container vehicles.
The Ministry of Construction has instructed the Vietnam Road Administration to publicly disclose toll rates, collection methods, exemptions and reductions, and organise toll collection in accordance with existing regulations.
Authorities said the toll policy is intended to help fund expressway maintenance and future road development projects rather than generate profit.
Under current regulations, toll rates vary by vehicle type, ranging from passenger cars and public buses to heavy trucks and container vehicles.
