The city's Department of Construction on June 16 issued a directive to coastal localities and relevant agencies, seeking coordinated action to address water hyacinth and marine debris drifting onto beaches.

Large amounts of water hyacinth and waste washed ashore at beaches in Vung Tau, Ho Tram and other coastal areas earlier this month. Similar conditions have continued in recent days, particularly in Vung Tau.
The accumulation of floating vegetation and waste has affected coastal sanitation, beach scenery, tourism activities and local businesses, authorities said.
According to the department, most of the water hyacinth and waste reaching beaches is carried by rivers, canals and drainage waterways that discharge into the sea.
To reduce environmental pollution and maintain tourism activities, the department has asked relevant agencies to review measures already implemented and propose additional solutions.
Local authorities have also been urged to strengthen public awareness campaigns on environmental protection and enforce regulations against littering and environmental violations.
In addition, wards and communes have been instructed to proactively collect water hyacinth, aquatic vegetation and waste from rivers, canals, waterways and beaches under their management to prevent debris from reaching coastal areas.
