The animal was handed over to local authorities by a resident of Thuan Hoa Ward after it was discovered in the family's yard at around 10.15 pm on June 16.
The ward’s Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Division and local forest rangers received the crocodile and carried out the necessary procedures.
The crocodile weighed about 3 kilogrammes and measured roughly one metre in length, authorities said.
After assessing its condition, the animal is placed under temporary care and are coordinating with a wildlife rescue centre for its transfer.
Authorities said the crocodile would not be released back into the wild in order to protect local ecosystems and comply with wildlife management regulations.
The resident's voluntary handover of the animal is see as a positive contribution to biodiversity conservation efforts.
