Bird flu outbreak prompts duck cull in Ninh Binh

Authorities in Ninh Binh Province have culled more than 1,100 ducks after a bird flu outbreak was detected in Lai Thanh Commune.

Ngo Xuan Quyen, chairman of Lai Thanh Commune People's Committee, said local authorities had completed the culling of a flock owned by resident Nguyen Van Nam after test results confirmed infection with the avian influenza virus.

Following confirmation of the virus, authorities culled all 1,162 ducks, weighing a combined 1,744 kilogrammes, in accordance with animal disease control regulations.

Officials also disinfected the farm, culling site and surrounding areas to minimise the risk of further transmission.

Local authorities have launched emergency vaccination campaigns, stepped up disease surveillance and urged poultry farmers to strengthen biosecurity measures and report suspected infections promptly.
