Dalat ramps up waste collection after landfill reopens

Authorities in Lam Dong Province have deployed hundreds of workers and vehicles to clear accumulated waste in Dalat after the city's main treatment plant resumed operations.

On June 14, Dalat Urban Services JSC mobilised workers and specialised vehicles to collect waste from major streets across Dalat, aiming to reduce backlogs and prevent further environmental pollution.

The operation began after the Dalat Solid Waste Treatment Plant resumed accepting waste following a two day suspension.

Waste collection efforts continued throughout the night of June 14 in a bid to quickly restore cleanliness and eliminate pollution caused by accumulated rubbish.

As previously reported, many streets in central Dalat experienced severe waste build up on June 13 and 14 after the city's waste collection and treatment system stopped accepting rubbish.

According to Dalat Urban Services JSC, the Dalat Solid Waste Treatment Plant, operated by Green Energy Environment Co Ltd and located in Xuan Truong - Dalat Ward, suspended waste intake from 6 pm on June 13. As a result, dozens of garbage trucks were forced to queue outside the facility.

Earlier, on June 12, Green Energy Environment Co Ltd notified authorities in central Dalat wards that the Lam Dong Region I Civil Judgment Enforcement Office had instructed a bank to restrict debits from the company's accounts from June 11.

The company said the restrictions prevented transactions needed to purchase fuel and food, and to pay for machinery and equipment repairs, making it impossible to continue operating the plant.

Built on a 28-hectare site, the Dalat Solid Waste Treatment Plant has been in operation since 2015 and processes between 350 and 370 tonnes of waste daily for the Dalat urban area.

The facility has previously suspended operations on several occasions due to disputes related to waste treatment pricing.
