Quang Ninh police dismantle commercial surrogacy ring

Police in Quang Ninh Province have dismantled an alleged commercial surrogacy network that operated through social media platforms, authorities said.

Investigators said the suspects used Facebook and TikTok to connect people seeking surrogate mothers or egg donors with women willing to carry pregnancies or sell eggs, generating illegal profits from the arrangements.

The investigation identified Nguyen Thi, born in 1998 and residing in Uong Bi Ward, Quang Ninh Province, as the alleged organiser and operator of the surrogacy brokerage and illegal egg trading network.

According to police, Nguyen negotiated fees, brokered transactions, arranged accommodation and care for women involved in surrogacy and egg donation activities, and profited from the operation.

Investigators determined that before the scheme was uncovered, Nguyen had organised at least six cases involving egg donation and commercial surrogacy, earning illicit profits of several hundred million Vietnamese dong.

Based on evidence collected during the investigation, the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Investigation Agency has launched criminal proceedings and charged Nguyen with organising commercial surrogacy activities.

The case remains under investigation as authorities seek to identify other individuals involved and clarify their roles for possible legal action under Vietnamese law.
