Rare pangolin rescued from coffee plantation in Lam Dong

A rare Sunda pangolin found in a coffee plantation in Lam Dong Province has been handed over to authorities and released back into the wild.

Police in Nhan Co Commune said on Friday they had coordinated with local authorities and forest rangers to release the animal into the Nam Cat Tien forest.

The pangolin was discovered by Vu Duc Vu, 35, while he was working on his family's coffee farm in Nhan Co Commune.

Recognising it as a protected wild animal, Vu contacted local police and voluntarily handed it over to authorities.

Police and forest rangers subsequently took custody of the animal, completed the required procedures and monitored its condition before releasing it back into its natural habitat.

According to authorities, the Chinese pangolin (Manis pentadactyla) is classified as a rare and endangered species under Vietnam's wildlife protection regulations.

Officials said the resident's actions contributed to biodiversity conservation and helped promote public awareness of wildlife protection.
