The Centre of Hue Forest Protection Department said it had coordinated with authorities in Vy Da Ward and local police to receive the animal.
At around 8.30 pm on Wednesday, Le Thanh Tu, a resident of Vy Da Ward, voluntarily handed over the pangolin, which weighed about 1.6 kilogrammes, to authorities.
The Javan pangolin is classified as a Group IB species, Vietnam's highest protection category for endangered and rare wildlife. The species is among those facing a severe decline in the wild due to poaching, illegal trade and habitat loss.
Following the handover, forestry officials conducted an initial health assessment and completed the necessary procedures to ensure the animal's care and transfer to a wildlife rescue facility in accordance with regulations.
The Hue Forest Protection Department said residents have increasingly volunteered to hand over wild animals to authorities, contributing to wildlife conservation and public awareness of biodiversity protection.
