Three killed in landslide triggered by heavy rain in Lai Chau

Three people were killed after a landslide triggered by heavy rain buried workers in a mountainous area of Lai Chau Province.

Local authorities said the incident occurred at about 12.30 pm on June 9 in a mountain ravine in Mit Thai Village, Pac Ta Commune, Lai Chau Province.

At the time of the landslide, several residents were working below the ravine when soil and rocks swept down the slope, reportedly carrying away and burying the victims.

After receiving reports from local residents, authorities and villagers immediately launched a search and rescue operation.

The landslide site was located in a remote and hazardous area. Rescue teams travelled about 5km by motorbike to a local access road in Mit Thai Village before continuing on foot for approximately 3km across steep mountainous terrain. The area remained at risk of further landslides during the operation.

At around 3 pm on the same day, rescuers discovered the bodies of three men who had been swept into the ravine by the landslide.

Emergency teams then carried out recovery efforts to remove the victims from the dangerous area.

The three victims were identified as local residents aged between 25 and 29.
