USD 44 mln approved for Kiep Bac herigate restoration

Authorities in Haiphong City have approved a VND 1.16 trillion (USD 44 million) project to restore and enhance the historic Kiep Bac Temple complex.

The project aims to upgrade heritage structures, infrastructure and surrounding landscapes in line with the master plan for the Con Son-Kiep Bac historical site.

According to local authorities, the project will focus on restoring religious structures and traditional festival activities while improving the management, conservation and promotion of the site's cultural value.

The plan also includes the preservation and presentation of archaeological excavation sites uncovered in 1972, helping to further highlight the heritage site's authenticity and integrity in line with UNESCO recommendations.

Infrastructure works will include landscape improvements, restoration of ceremonial gates, construction of facilities for site management and exhibitions, and upgrades to electricity, water supply, drainage and fire prevention systems.

Several related heritage sites, including Bac Dau Temple and Nam Tao Temple, will also undergo restoration. The project will further include ecological landscape rehabilitation at Con Kiem, the construction of Cuu Thien Vu De Shrine and improvements to transport links and technical infrastructure.

A wastewater treatment facility with a daily capacity of 250 cubic metres and a wastewater collection system will also be built as part of efforts to support sustainable tourism development.

The project will be funded by the municipal budget and carried out between 2026 and 2028, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
