The pilot programme will be rolled out in several disadvantaged areas before being expanded across the city, according to health authorities.
Officials said the initiative would involve healthcare providers, community organisations and local authorities as part of broader efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare.
Tu Du Hospital said it was using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to support cervical cancer screening. The system combines cameras and AI software to detect abnormal lesions within minutes, offering a low-cost option suitable for remote and underserved areas.
Hung Vuong Hospital also backed prioritising cervical cancer screening, noting that the disease can be prevented through HPV vaccination and effectively treated when precancerous lesions are detected early.
Health officials said AI-based screening could provide rapid results while helping reduce costs during the pilot phase.
Several community organisations have backed the programme. The HCM City Labour Federation said more than 10,000 workers had undergone health screenings in recent weeks, while the Women's Union plans to support around 5,000 disadvantaged women.
The city's Department of Health said early detection significantly improves treatment success rates, particularly for cervical cancer, and can help reduce the long-term social and economic burden of the disease.
