Under Decree 202/2026, battery electric vehicles will be exempt from the first-time registration fee from March 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2030. The regulation takes effect on March 1, 2027.

The incentive extends an existing policy that granted a 0 per cent registration fee for battery electric vehicles from March 2022 and was later prolonged until February 2027.
The Ministry of Finance said the measure was intended to encourage consumers to switch to electric vehicles, support manufacturers and reduce transport-related emissions.
The ministry noted that the global electric vehicle market has expanded rapidly in recent years, with worldwide sales exceeding 17 million units in 2024 and expected to surpass 20 million in 2025.
Many countries are promoting low-emission transport through tax incentives and other measures while gradually reducing reliance on fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.
