Hanoi bun cha staff comfort exhausted foreign tourist

A foreign tourist who suddenly felt dizzy while dining at a bun cha restaurant in Hanoi was helped by staff, who used medicated oil and massage techniques to help her recover.

On the evening of May 31, a foreign couple aged between 35 and 40 visited a bun cha restaurant in Hoan Kiem Ward, Hanoi.

Shortly after they began their meal, the woman suddenly showed signs of dizziness and exhaustion. Two female staff members quickly approached and offered assistance.

Unable to speak English, the employees asked a nearby customer to help translate. They applied medicated oil and gently massaged the tourist's neck and shoulders to help ease her discomfort. Despite the language barrier, an older staff member used gestures to reassure the visitor.

A few minutes later, the tourist gradually recovered and was able to continue her meal. The man accompanying her repeatedly thanked the restaurant staff for their support.

The moment was recorded by another employee, Nguyen Thi Quynh, who later shared the video on social media as a memorable experience.

Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, Quynh said she was serving customers on the second floor when the incident occurred. After noticing the situation through security cameras, she went downstairs to help, but by then the tourist had already recovered.

“She expressed her appreciation for the care and attention provided by our staff,” Quynh said.

According to Quynh, this was not the first such incident at the restaurant. Earlier in May, a French tourist also appeared unwell while eating bun cha and slumped onto a table.

Staff members immediately assisted her with massage and traditional coin rubbing therapy. After about 15 minutes, the woman regained her strength and expressed her gratitude.

“Our staff are always willing to help customers when needed. For mild cases, we can provide immediate assistance. If someone shows more serious symptoms requiring medical attention, we will call an ambulance,” Quynh said.

The bun cha restaurant is located in the heart of Hanoi's Old Quarter and regularly welcomes international visitors. Foreign tourists account for approximately 60 per cent to 70 per cent of its customers.
