Vietnam targets five tech firms with USD 1bn overseas revenue

Vietnam aims to develop five digital technology companies generating at least USD 1 billion annually from overseas markets by 2030 under a new government strategy.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has approved a national programme to support the global expansion of Vietnamese digital technology enterprises through 2030, with a long-term vision extending to 2045.

The programme seeks to build a highly competitive domestic technology sector capable of mastering core and strategic technologies, participating more deeply in global value chains and creating a strong, sustainable digital technology ecosystem.

Officials believe the initiative will contribute to double-digit economic growth while strengthening the international profile of the "Make in Viet Nam" brand.

By 2030, the government aims to have at least 5,000 Vietnamese digital technology companies generating revenue from international markets.

The strategy also targets annual export revenue of at least USD 55 billion from Vietnamese digital technology products and services, with average annual growth of no less than 30 per cent.

Under the plan, Vietnam hopes to have 60 digital technology companies generating at least USD 20 million a year from overseas markets.

More ambitiously, five companies are expected to achieve annual foreign-market revenue of at least USD 1 billion.

The programme also calls for the successful completion of at least 25 mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures or strategic partnerships between Vietnamese technology firms and international partners, with each transaction valued at a minimum of USD 1 million.

Looking ahead to 2045, Vietnam aims to become a leading digital technology industrial nation and one of the world's major centres for digital technology development.

The long-term vision includes establishing at least 10 Vietnamese digital technology companies capable of competing with leading firms from advanced economies.

The government also wants the Make in Viet Nam brand to gain broad international recognition as a trusted and reputable technology label.

Among the key measures outlined in the programme are increased investment in research and development, the creation of advanced digital products and services, and the development of a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting international standards and market demands.

The Prime Minister said priority resources would be directed towards research and development projects focused on export-oriented Make in Viet Nam digital products and services based on strategic and core technologies, helping domestic companies gradually master critical technologies and strengthen their global competitiveness.
