Heavy rain forecast across northern Vietnam

Northern Vietnam is forecast to see widespread rain and thunderstorms on June 5, with some areas expected to receive more than 120 mm of rainfall.

Northern Vietnam recorded scattered showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday, with rainfall exceeding 70 mm in some areas, including 89.6 mm in Nam Dan Commune in Tuyen Quang Province and 78.2 mm in Tam Kim Commune in Cao Bang Province.

Northern Vietnam is expected to receive 20-40 mm of rain on the day, with isolated areas likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall exceeding 120 mm.

Forecasters warned that rainfall intensity could exceed 100 mm within three hours in some locations.

The Central Highlands and southern Vietnam are also forecast to see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 10-20 mm and isolated areas receiving more than 50 mm. Rain is expected mainly in the late afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms may be accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.

Such conditions could disrupt agricultural production and damage homes and infrastructure, while increasing the risk of flash floods, landslides and flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents have been advised to monitor weather forecasts and warnings closely and take precautions against severe weather.

Hanoi is likely to see scattered showers and thunderstorms overnight and in the morning before sunny conditions return. Temperatures will range from 25-27 degrees Celsius to 33-35 degrees Celsius.
